The Man Kit – The Most Essential Oils for Men
There are so many to choose from, it’s tough to narrow down a top list of essential oils for men. I last counted 85 singles and 68 blends, 153 Young Living essential oils total. But here are my personal picks for the best of the best essential oils for men:
Peppermint
This one is probably my top dog, numero uno. It soothes digestion, so I take it for anything stomach related. I also take it when my head isn’t perfect (cue the ‘when is it ever perfect?’ jokes). Peppermint has been studied for its ability to improve concentration and mental sharpness. I take it for a nice boost of energy, among other things, daily. Definitely my go to oil. Lemon
Guys, this one is great not only for your body, but for your house. It’s handy to remove grease, oil, tar and glue, it eliminates odors, nourishes leather, and is a solid disinfectant. Health-wise, it works with the digestive, immune, and respiratory systems, promoting healthy function in the body. It promotes focus and clarity, is an immune stimulant, and is used in skin care. Whew, that’s a lot of stuff. I take this one daily as well for all its kickass benefits. (Topical, Aromatic, Internal)
Lavender
Ahh, the lovely, sweet, flowery smell of laven… ummm, just kidding. I’m actually not really a fan of the scent, and I like the taste even less. I know lavender doesn’t sound very manly, but trust me, it rocks for men. My wife diffuses lavender at bed time to help us all wind down, especially needed for the little ones. It can soothe and cleanse cuts and scrapes. It makes a great outdoor spray. And, my personal favorite, lavender is great for the respiratory system, so I use it like crazy when my sinuses go haywire. Valor
This one should be simply pictured with Dos Equis’ “The Most Interesting Man in the World.” When I go out (which isn’t as often as it used to be), I like to put Valor on. It makes a great cologne, my wife loves the way it smells, and it works with the body, increasing feelings of strength, courage, and self-esteem. Valor is known for its protective qualities. Not only before a night out, this one is good to put on to combat any stressful situation or when you simply want a boost of confidence. (Topical, Aromatic)
Thieves
It’s highly effective in supporting the immune system and overall good health (for men or women, it’s one of the most popular blends from Young Living due to its powerful immune support). My wife puts this on all our feet whenever one of us gets even a hint of a cold. My immune system used to suck donkey nuggets… wait, that’s a rude way to put it, how about this: it used to be woefully inadequate, extremely, absolutely awful. But I’ve only gotten sick once in the past… wow, it’s been so long, I’m stumped on how long. Plus, Thieves makes a great household cleaner (YL has a whole line of Thieves cleaners or you can make your own). (Topical, Aromatic, Internal)
Frankincense
Frankincense helps focus and stimulate the mind and overcome stress. It’s been referenced for it’s therapeutic properties in the bible and even further back in time. Frankincense is used as a valuable ingredient in skin care products for aging. It’s also very high in sesquiterpenes, which are tiny molecules that stimulate the part of the brain that controls and affects our memory, emotions, and even our hormones.
Deep Relief / PanAway
Both of these work great to soothe the skin and provide comforting warmth to stressed muscles or discomfort (i.e., after exercising or working out). And they both ease minor head tension. So which one is better? I use Deep Relief more often, but it just depends on your need.
Di-Gize
This blend of oils can help support normal digestion, plus it’s a valuable aid in digestive issues such as an upset stomach. I take it daily to simply help my overall digestive system. I hate stomach bugs.
Stress Away
It’s all in the name. This is a blend of YL essential oils that my wife calls ‘Key West in a bottle’. It can help induce relaxation, reduce mental rigidity, and reduce occasional nervous tension. Do you live or work in a stressful atmosphere? Super busy? Just surrounded by idiots? Stress Away helps fight the everyday stresses, giving you a calmer outlook on life… no Margarita needed (although much appreciated).
Tea Tree
This one has a wide variety of uses… dbad breath, blemishes, foot care, prevent mildew in bathrooms, removes mildew smell in laundry, blisters, bruises, dental health, muscle aches, bug bites, stuffy nose, and more!
Purification
Deodorizes and neutralizes the air, has cleansing properties, aids in insect bites and stings, and great for blemishes.
